Step 1: Enter The Crime Scene In Windhelm

Step 2: Report To The Guards and Investigate The Crime Scene

Step 3: Gain Access To Hjerim and Meet Viola

Step 7: Patrol The Stone Quarter At Night

Now the player will have to head to the market district, known as the Stone Quarter, sometime between dusk and dawn and the player will have to wait for anyone to occur. There can be any character that can show up, but you will see Calixto appearing and he will draw a knife from the shadows. He will now proclaim that he is the feared butcher of Windhelm and you will see that the guards won’t interfere, so you have to do it on their behalf.

Step 8: Bring The Butcher To Justice

The player needs to kill Calixto before he kills the murder victim. There won’t be any bounty on the head of the player even if kills Calixto in front of the guards. This should be a successful step because if you are not able to kill Calixto, he will kill the victim and return to Hjerim.

Step 9: Talk To Jorleif

After killing Calixto, the player has to talk to Jorleif. The quest will be completed after talking to him and he will grant the ability to the player to claim Hjerim as their own and they can also decorate it the way they want it.
